International Wood Architecture Conference in Tallinn brings together top architects and engineers from around the world who have stood out with innovative use of wood in their works. For the second consecutive year they asked us to make the brand – including logo, colors, typefaces, web – for the event.

In 2018 the conference took place for the twelfth consecutive year and is organised by the Estonian Forest and Wood Industries Association in cooperation with the Estonian Association of Architects and Estonian Association of Civil Engineers.

The 2018 conference concept was inspired by wooden joints, especially Japanese joinery which is a really nice metaphor for building with wood, for the strenght of wood and for the sustainability of wood as it doesn't need anything more than two well engineered pieces of wood to hold a strong structure.

We felt this subject really brought together the main features of the conference - wood and architecture. We used traditional joint shapes as the base and built some over the top, a little bit crazy new joints on top of those to embrace the traditional values and smart techonologies that building with wood means.

The brand is as flexible as wood itself.

The International Wood Architecture Conference 2018's colorway compliments the overall concept with really contrast colors such as bright orange, white and black. The typeface used for the brand is GT Eesti. In terms of different mediums, the usage of shapes gave us a lot of playing room with the designs. It was also important for us to only use sustainable printing materials for this project so all the paper used for the conference was uncoated and recycable.
